All innovation lies at the edges of different disciplines

Priyanka Vyas has a PhD in public policy and political economy from the School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas. She did her postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. She has taught a variety of courses in introductory and advanced GIS and public health. She has worked on a range of projects at the intersection of public health and GIS as a researcher and a consultant for academic and non-profit organizations such as Stanford School of Medicine, Stanford Prevention Research Center, Public Health Institute, Oakland, San Francisco Tobacco Free Coalition among others. She has published in leading journals such as Spatial and Spatio-Temporal Epidemiology, Preventive Medicine Reports, Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health, Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition, among others. She is currently on the Board of California Geographic Information Association. In her current position, based at University of California’s Berkeley campus, she is a part of the Informatics and GIS team of University of California’s Agriculture and Natural Resources Division and supports UC’s statewide cooperative extension programs by advancing the use of geospatial tools and technology for a wide range of applications in the realm of community health, economic development, nutrition health, urban agriculture among others.
